Incarcerated youth of color can no longer be released just to go back into the system. This only serves to increase the recidivism rate. Take Trips MES is here to remove the barriers that prevent this population from seeking positive outcomes.
Before any healing can be done youth of color must be encouraged to acknowledge what has left them hurt and broken.
When you commit to healing the hurt, you commit to running towards a better life and environment.
Talking about our pain is part of the healing process, Discussion helps us to feel less alone and therefore eases our suffering, even if only a little bit.
Youth that are serious about their healing, will be ready to do the work. Doing the work will allow them to see things differently.
Choose the pain of discipline over the pain of regret. Some days may be better than others, others may be far worse but we must have faith. We must try to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Beauty has no skin tone. Reject societal beauty standards — celebrate the things that make you unique, because that is what makes you beautiful.
Don’t sleep on injustice. Acknowledge the errors within our system and educate yourself further. Now there is one more person who is awake, and we are one step closer to bringing about meaningful change.
