Who was Sedric Colley? Y'all better ask MJ. Did prison change my baby brother Sedric Colley? Y'all better ask MJ. Was Sedric a good guy who made many mistakes? Y'all better ask MJ. Who knew my brother's heart was pure, but his mind and thoughts were in shambles from past, and present trauma from a father not being in his life to relationships that were based on what he could give, but not what could be given to him.
Whenever, I think of you Sedric, I think of MJ because without MJ and his late nite talks, constant phone calls and encouragement, and reintroducing Sedric in death to us all; we would have remained lost without him in our lives. You saved us here on the outside while you were dealing with long nights in a cold prison cell in Parchment prison, but you never missed a moment to nurse us all with your words and your unwavering strength.
Here we are seven years later and we are all still missing Sedric, but we are also missing you as you continue to finish your time in that cold prison cell. Sedric chose to take his life and though we will never know the true anguish of his pain; we know who to direct folks to when they ask about him and his life. We say what we have been saying since 2015. Y'all better go ask MJ.
Help us help youth of color like Sedric dealing with mental trauma, but have no clue as to how to take mental productive trips. DONATE.
What an exciting conversation we all had with Ms. Parsons. Youth were able to ask questions, learn more about her books, and her iconic show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
Thank you all for your participation and continue to help us, help at risk and reentry youth of color.
Take Trips MES (Mentally, Emotionally, and Spiritually), based in Ossining, NY, was established in 2019 to bring awareness to the aftercare struggles of incarcerated youth of color. This population is not receiving real opportunities to excel when they are released from the incarceration system; Take Trips MES wants to change this. We want our youth to be equipped with tools that will allow them to make better decisions, and do the required work to be productive citizens. Our organization is designed to decrease the recidivism rate and increase the productivity rate.
Take Trips MES, will work tirelessly to reduce the recidivism rate of incarcerated and detention youth of color once they are released from the system; to provide them with adequate aftercare services.
Healing the hurt of detained and incarcerated youth of color once they transition back into society is not an easy task. This population is often in need of clothing, accessories, and other wearable items to maintain their freedom.
These items might be spare to you, but are essential to them obtaining and sustaining employment as they increase their productivity rate in their communities and beyond. The items that you donate will allow them to succeed. The donated items should go to the address listed below. Thank you for your kind generosity!
Please mail or deliver clean and boxed items to 135 South Highland Ave. 3B4, Ossining, NY 10562.
*Take Trips MES is a 501(c)3 registered nonprofit organization. EIN number is 85-0840436, we are a tax-exempt organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.
